Description

The Association of Pet Dog Trainers' Good Companion Award is ideal for motivating those who have already completed our five-week Adult Dog Training or Puppy Socialisation courses to continue enjoying training exercises and life skills with their dogs. It’s also open to dogs of all abilities, revisiting key skills and strengthening the partnership between you and your dog. Whether your goal is to progress towards becoming a PAT Dog, assistance dog, service dog, or simply to enjoy structured training and life skills, this course provides a supportive and rewarding environment for dogs and owners alike. The course runs for six weeks on Saturdays: 21st and 28th February, and 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th March.

What you’ll work on: Over six weeks, you and your dog will focus on building reliability, teamwork, and practical life skills through exercises such as: ➖ Responding to Name & Recall with distractions ➖ Lead walking & off-lead walking with distractions ➖ Positions (Sit, Down, Stand), including distance positions ➖ Wait & Stay ➖ Emergency Stop ➖ Leave on cue ➖ Full body examination ➖ Vehicle Entry & Exit ➖ Play Manners, Greeting Behaviour, Group Work, and Self-Control ➖ Short knowledge checks from the Guardian Information Pack ✨ This isn’t a formal exam. The focus is on progress, enjoyment, and strengthening your partnership with your dog. Spaces are limited, so book early to secure your place in this six-week journey of fun, learning, and life skills!

Booking Information - Spaces are limited to 8 dogs to ensure plenty of individual support, so please book early to avoid disappointment. Once booked, you’ll receive an email with everything you need to know about what to bring. ⚠️ We prefer that one person attends per dog (maximum two if needed). ⚠️ If your dog is aggressive or highly reactive, they cannot attend this class (unless it is specifically for reactive dogs). In these cases, we recommend arranging a one-to-one session instead.
