Description
Looking to take your training to the next level? Whether your goal is to progress towards becoming a PAT Dog, assistance dog, service dog, or simply to enjoy advanced training and life skills, this course is for you. Created by the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and similar to the Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme, the Good Companion Awards offer a structured way to build on your dog’s skills and your own confidence as a trainer.
What the course includes - Over 6 weeks, you and your dog will work towards the Advanced Good Companion Award, developing reliability, control, and teamwork through: ➖ Recall with distractions ➖ Emergency stop ➖ Full body examination ➖ Distance positions (Sit, Down, Stand) ➖ Wait ➖ Lead walking with distractions ➖ Off-lead walking & greeting ➖ Leave on cue ➖ Short knowledge check from the Guardian Information Pack ✨ Don’t worry — this isn’t a formal exam. It’s about showing progress, building your partnership, and enjoying the journey with your dog. Who is it for? The Advanced Award is suitable for dogs who have already completed a Puppy Training & Socialisation class or an Adult Dog Training class and are ready for the next challenge. It’s also a great stepping stone towards PAT Dog status, assistance work, or simply more advanced training for everyday life.
Booking Information - Spaces are limited to 8 dogs to ensure plenty of individual support, so please book early to avoid disappointment. Once booked, you’ll receive an email with everything you need to know about what to bring. ⚠️ We prefer that one person attends per dog (maximum two if needed). ⚠️ If your dog is aggressive or highly reactive, they cannot attend this class (unless it is specifically for reactive dogs). In these cases, we recommend arranging a one-to-one session instead.
